Abstract
In this report numbers of firearm and motor vehicle deaths are compared within [U.S.] States for persons of all races in 1991 and within States for the non-Hispanic white Hispanic black Asian and Pacific Islander and American Indian/Alaskan Native...populations for 1990-91. The extent to which homicide and suicide contribute to firearm deaths is also examined for these groups. The results show that Motor vehicle crash- and firearm-related injuries accounted for 55 percent of all injury deaths in the United States in 1991; 43536 people died as a result of injuries sustained during motor vehicle crashes and 38317 people died as the result of firearm-related injuries....
