Abstract

The Hospital Pharmacy Section of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) conducted its annual membership meeting during the parent group’s 76th World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, held August 28 through September 1 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. As part of the meeting, section members elected Jonathan Penm to a first four-year term as assistant secretary. Penm is a Ph.D. postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Cincinnati’s James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy. This past year he coordinated meetings of the section’s research committee, which supports research to build an evidence base for FIP’s Basel Statements on the future of hospital pharmacy, and in the coming year will serve as the chair. The meeting marked the halfway point of some section officers’ service: ... Lee C. Vermeulen, a leader in the creation and revision of FIP’s Basel Statements, was eligible to serve a second term as secretary but had earlier announced his intention to opt out. In all, he served 12 consecutive years as a section officer. Vermeulen is the director of the Center for Clinical Knowledge Management at UW Health and a clinical professor at the University of Wisconsin—Madison School of Pharmacy. Earlier this year he was named the 2016 recipient of the ASHP Board of Directors’ Donald E. Francke Medal for his significant international contributions to the advancement of pharmacy practice.
