Abstract
The existence of the 10 + 10* and 27 mesons are examined by studying the forward scat tering of pseudoscalar-meson octet off baryon octet under the hypothesis of SU(3) symmetry, the Regge pole theory, and the j-plane analyticity. We find that the numerical integrations of 1m Ft10+10* (1I) and 1m F27t (li), which are controlled at high energy by Regge poles associated with the 10 + 10* and 27 mesons respectively, are zero within the experimental errors. For the parameters of the Regge poles associated with these mesons, we find that one of the following three possibilities are realized. 1) a10+10* (0) < -1 (a27 (0) < - 2) and /310+10* (0) (/327 (0» is not negligible, 2) /310+10* (0) (/327 (0» is small but a10+10* (0) (a27 (0» is not small, 3) there are no Regge poles in the 10 + 10* and 27 states.
