Abstract

Ultrasonic wave propagation is studied through application of finite element methods. Results for several time steps are plotted in color and a 16 mm animation film is made in order to visualize the sound wave propagation in materials. 2 MHz longitudinal and transversal wave paths are observed for the case of an imperfection between steel and stainless steel cladding. Application of finite element analysis together with color animation is established as a useful technique for further applications.
