Abstract

Isolation bearings used as supports for nuclear reactors are analyzed in this paper. These bearings support the weight of the structures and they have a very high vertical stiffness. On the other hand these bearings have a very low horizontal stiffness to sustain relatively very large horizontal displacements. The bearings are modeled using a viscoelastic constitutive relation. The behavior of these viscoelastic bearings under various cyclic loadings is presented.
