Abstract
In order to improve the performance of an evacuated solar tube heat exchanger, which works by the evaporation–condensation cycle of the working fluid, the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the exchanger employing the Galerkin finite-element method has been analysed in this paper. It is found that the heat extraction rate of the absorber is governed by the flowrate – specific heat capacity product of the working fluid, the tube dimensions and the absorptive coating.
