Abstract

YAG:Ce phosphor powders were prepared by spray pyrolysis from the spray solutions with BaF 2 flux. BaF 2 flux improved the morphological and optical properties of the YAG:Ce phosphor powders. The powders prepared from the spray solution with 9 wt.% BaF 2 flux had regular morphology and non-aggregation characteristic. The mean size of the YAG:Ce phosphor powders was 1.73 μm. The prepared YAG:Ce phosphor powders had broad emission spectra between 500 and 670 nm, with maximum peak intensity at 537 nm irrespective of the amount of BaF 2 flux added to the spray solutions. The YAG:Ce phosphor powders prepared from the spray solution with 9 wt.% BaF 2 flux had the maximum photoluminescence intensity. The maximum peak intensity of the prepared YAG:Ce phosphor powders was 108% of that of the commercial phosphor powders. The white LED with prepared YAG:Ce phosphor powders showed (0.3643, 0.4248) on the CIE chromaticity diagram, and about 62.8 of Ra. The luminous intensity of the white LED was 2.21 cd.
