Abstract

The symbiotic crab Pinnaxodes mutuensis Sakai, 1939 was found in the mantle cavity of the mud-burrowing bivalve Mya arenaria Linnaeus, 1758 (the family Myidae) in Busse Lagoon at southern Sakhalin Island. Along the Russian coasts, this species has been previously found in the mantle cavity of epifaunal bivalves of the family Mytilidae [Modiolus difficilis (Deshayes in Maillard, 1863), Modiolus modiolus (Linnaeus, 1758), Mytilus edulis Linnaeus, 1758, Crenomytilus grayanus (Dunker, 1853)] and the family Ostreidae [Crassostrea gigas (Thunberg, 1793)]. New data on the morphology and ecology of this crab are presented.
