Abstract
Deficiencies in the IRI profile specifications for the bottomside F2 layer required a review of the IRI profile parameters B 0 and B 1. Using the available database of measured electron density profiles from several Digisonde stations, the IRI profile model is assessed. The paper describes a new technique to calculate the B 0 and B 1 parameters that “best” reproduce the measured profiles. The use of the Digisonde's Chebyshev polynomial presentation of the profiles offers a unique advantage for calculating the best B 0 and B 1.
