Abstract
This paper sets out to review the existing literature on financial literacy studies in Malaysia and to assess trends and areas that have been studied among self-employed youth. Based on available literature, gaps are identified and form the proposed framework and hypotheses. The proposed framework suggests financial attitude and family influence have direct relationship to financial literacy. Also, the paper proposes financial education as a moderator to the relationships and the findings can complement the existing body of knowledge which has investigated the moderating effects of financial education. In addition, literature review points to the need and the importance to investigate financial literacy among self-employed youth who are deemed as a novel context in Malaysia financial literacy studies.
