Abstract
We are witnessing the emergence of new professional roles in the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), that attempt to mitigate, in some way, the absence of existing custom tutorial assistance in traditional online courses. Throughout this article, we will review the role of facilitators. This is one of the most visible figures in MOOCs since students recognize the figure as representing the institution within the courses. We shall approach their study by considering the functions to be undertaken on a course of this nature, the technological tools they can use and the profile needed to perform this kind of activity.

Si exceptuamos los casos excepcionales de los nuevos COMA en instituciones de muchísimo prestigio internacional, se ha venido dando constantemente en instituciones que se dedican a la enseñanza a distancia. Una institución que ya dispone de una plataforma de formación propia, con un elevado nivel de alumnos matriculados en los cursos oficiales y que va a ofertar cursos COMA puede plantearse, experimentalmente y previamente a su inversión inicial en nuevas plataformas o recursos humanos, o bien, seguir utilizando la plataforma propia (por ejemplo existen muchísimas instituciones que ya trabajan con plataformas propias, Moodle, Sakai, Blackboard etc.), dejando sus cursos con la posibilidad de matrícula libre en abierto (no se necesita confirmación y uno mismo puede integrarse en el curso), o bien, buscando y negociando alianzas con diversas instituciones alternativas existentes en el mercado para alojar sus cursos, Audacity, Coursera, Edx, RedunX, Miriadax, Unimooc, etc. La UNED ha utilizado para sus cursos COMA una nueva plataforma que se encuentra en constante evolución denominada UNEDCOMA9, basada en Openmooc, solución de código abierto para enfrentarse a las matrículas masificadas y como todo lo nuevo y en desarrollo constante, presenta ventajas e inconvenientes que se van solventando poco a poco y que se centran, principalmente, en la forma en la que están estructurados los foros de debate y las herramientas de evaluación entre pares.
