Abstract

The field testing of a metal connecting system for use with round timber poles to fabricate roof trusses is described in this article. The system was used to produce trusses for the roof frame on structures in the north and south of Sierra Leone. Working within a village-based project in a developing region requires that the engineer not only be able to transfer technological skills but also be cognizant of local socio-economic, cultural, and material availability factors.
