Abstract

A /spl plusmn/500 kV HVDC transmission line is being constructed jointly by some electric power companies in Japan. Following construction of this overhead transmission line, the ability to work near a live line in a safe manner is one of the most important factors for system reliability. We conducted a survey of work near a live line using the /spl plusmn/250 kV Hokkaido-Honshu HVDC Link Line in July 1990 before this overhead transmission line was upgraded. As a result, we clarified various problems in the work conducted near a live line and suggested some countermeasures such as the grounding of stringing conductors at more than one point.
