Abstract

Three winter oilseed rape cultivars (Bienvenu, Jet Neuf, Mikado) grown in a field heavily infested with Heterodera cruciferae showed no evidence of cultivar resistance to the nematode. Aldicarb applied at drilling time significantly improved growth and yield of all cultivars. Plant population was not affected by nematicide treatment. Yield was improved by an average of 0 · 66 t/ha but there was no evidence of a significant difference in yield response between the cultivars. Aldicarb did not affect invasion or reproduction of H. cruciferae; the post-cropping nematode population density was higher than the precropping density for all cultivars whether or not a nematicide was applied.
