Abstract

AbstractBaited pitfall traps for Hylobius abietis were situated in fresh clearings in different forest zones in South Bohemia, Czechoslovakia. A comparison of several baits showed that the combination of alpha‐pinene, ethanol and fresh bark produced the highest catch. Trap effectiveness was also affected by the forest vegetation zone. Some bait components (alpha‐pinene, turpentine and fresh bark) are discussed in terms of experimental (strict standards) and field control (acceptable standard variationbark) approaches.
