Abstract

The Kibble balance will be one of the major instruments in the future for realizing the unit of mass, kilogram, in the new international system of units (SI). A recent experimental study at the Kibble balance group at the Bureau international des poids et mesures (BIPM) showed that the magnetic profile measured in weighing and velocity phases is sloped differently due to the movement of the current-carrying coil. This phenomenon has been explained by an analysis of the coil inductance energy (weighing) and self-induction (velocity). In this paper, the magnetic field change at the coil position due to the current is analyzed, in which the slope difference can be well integrated.
