Abstract
Fibrous dysplasia is an uncommon slow-growing benign disorder of the bone. However monostotic fibrous dysplasia involving the temporal bone is even more unusual. The most common clinical presentations are stenosis of the external auditory canal and conductive hearing loss. A 26-year-old man presented with progressive hearing loss of the right ear. The external meatus of the right bony ear canal was found to be extremely narrow and blocked by a ring of osseous formation. High resolution computed tomography, revealed isolated fibrous dysplasia involving the right temporal bone. Canaloplasty was carried out to enlarge the bony auditory canal and to remove the debris from the external ear canal. Histopathologic examination showed fibrous dysplasia and cholesteatoma. In this report, we discuss the characteristic features, differential diagnoses and treatment principle of this rare disease entity.
