Abstract

Breast fibromatosis (desmoid tumour) is a rare benign entity of undetermined aetiology, with an incidence of 2/1000 breast tumours. These neoplasms are characterized by proliferation of spindle cells (mesenchymal cells), with local infiltrating growth without the capacity for metastasis, with high rates of local recurrence between 18% and 29% in the first 3 years after surgery. The clinical and radiological presentation often simulates a breast carcinoma, hampering diagnosis. The cornerstone of treatment is surgery with adequate margins. We present the case of a 31-year-old patient treated with oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery, and provide a review of the literature on this entity.
