Abstract

The accurate type classification of an animal fibre depends on the ability of the microscopist to analyse fully the important appearance characteristics of the fibre with the aid of suitable microscopy techniques. This paper explores the role that the computer-based techniques of image processing and analysis could play in the characterization of the appearance attributes of a fibre, with particular reference to fibre images captured directly from a scanning electron microscope.
