Abstract
This article discusses some aspects of the arithmetic of Fibonacci's Liber Abbaci and the related pedagogical idea of the Pisan mathematician, described in the Prologue of the work and which can be seen from reading the text. This treaty indirectly influenced the teaching tradition in the Italian peninsula. One of manuscripts of the work was later rediscovered by Baldassarre Boncompagni and the first treatise on abacus in the European world returned to circulate in Italian cultural clubs in the Risorgimento period. Probably, Maria Montessori in her school experience came into contact with the work of Fibonacci which left a clear trace in her subsequent pedagogical proposals.
