Abstract
We propose a novel comb filter by using a symmetrical piecewise uniform fiber Bragg grating (S-PUFBG) in a Sagnac interferometer. The filter has wide bandwidth, equal passband spacing, and low insertion loss. The total transmission bandwidth is determined by the number and the parameters of the grating segments, while the transmission spectrum can be cosine modulated to realize comb-like filtering, and the modulating frequency can be controlled by adjusting the fiber length difference in the Sagnac loop.
