Abstract
AbstractThe aim of this contribution is to present a fiber‐based modeling approach for the behavior of muscles within the musculoskeletal system. We represent the skeletal system as a rigid multibody system which is actuated by muscles. Each muscle is represented by one 1D cable with variable cross section undergoing large deformation and strains. We employ a incompressible Kelvin‐Voigt material for the passive behavior and a active stress law found in the literature. We incorporate contact between the muscles and the rigid bodies within a finite element framework by the penalty method. We apply our framework to conduct a forward simulation of a simple upper limb model.
