Abstract Thirty-four high-dispersion spectrograms of the variable star FG Sge have been used to look for periodicity in its radial velocity. The search has yielded no evidence of any periodicity with an amplitude greater than the expected measurement error of 2.5 km/s, on timescales of 15 to 200 days. This result strongly indicates that FG Sge, the central star of the planetary nebula 60-7 deg 1, is not a binary star system as had been earlier suggested. Rather, the interpretation of the secular changes in the spectrum of this object must be made in terms of the evolution of a single star.
