Abstract

Introduction: Preeclampsia is a multisystem multifactorial disease unique to pregnancy with unknown etiology which is characterized by blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg after 20 weeks gestation associated with proteinuria ≥300 mg/24 hour urine specimen. It complicates about 2-10% of pregnancies worldwide. Aim: To determine the prevalence and evaluate fetomaternal outcomes of Preeclampsia. Methods: This was a retrospective study conducted in Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, (AIMS) Kochi during 1st August 2017-31st July 2018. This study was done by retrospective analysis of delivery register (Labour room) and hospital medical records. Results and conclusion: The prevalence of Pre eclampsia is 2.5% and the major feto- maternal complications are Impending eclampsia, Maternal distress and Placental abnormalities etc. However, the outcomes can be improved with prompt recognition and management, so it is important for pregnant women to have routine health screening.
