Abstract

The purpose of our study was to determine the Fetomaternal outcomes of breech presentations in labour at term. The study was carried out in department of obstetrics and gynaecology, Hayatabad medical complex, MTI, Peshawar. This study included 140 women presenting with breech presentations at term in labour. They were watched for progress of labour and allowed to deliver vaginally or through caesarean section if required. Both vaginal deliveries and caesarean sections were performed by trained medical officers have experience of more than 3 years in teaching hospital. APGAR score of the newborns was noted at 1 & 5 minutes by an accompanied consultant pediatrician having at least 3 years of experience. All the data was collected on a proforma. Maternal outcomes were classified as Breech vaginal delivery or emergency caesarean section. APGAR scores of the neonates at 1 and then 5 minutes interval was used for neonatal outcome. Results showed vaginal breech delivery in 70% women while 30% women had caesarean sections. The APGAR score of majority of babies i.e. 93% was >7 while 7% of babies were born with APGAR score of <7.
