Abstract

Abstract Ferroelectric behavior in aliphatic polythioureas is reported for the first time. The films of the polythioureas were almost amorphous with strong hydrogen bonding. The measured remanent polarization and pyroelectric constant in polynonamethylenethiourea were found to be 24.6 mC/m2 and 20 μC/m2K at 60°C, respectively. The preliminary studies on dielectric, ferroelectric and pyroelectric behaviors are discussed in view of the hydrogen bonding.
