Abstract

Progress in the analytical description of domain walls, their simulation by computer modelling and their experimental observation using 7 circle diffractomers is summarised and some relevant references are listed. The formation and retraction of needle twins is identified as principal annealing mechanism of complex twin patterns. The shape of the needle domain has been analysed in a local approximation. The role of chemical mixing and external pressure on the phase stability of the ferroic phase is briefly discussed.
