Abstract

ABSTRACTThe ferroelastic phase transition in LiCsSO4 crystal is vividly shown by the change of slowness surfaces between 293 K and 202 K. The soft mode theory is used to investigate the phase transition. The pure shear mode which is corresponding to the elastic constant c66 starts softening at 206 K and softens completely at 202 K. According to the elastic constitutive relations and the Curie principle, LiCsSO4 crystal is in the same symmetry between 202 K and 206 K. There isn't an intermediate phase during the phase transition.
