Abstract

In view of the recent increase in synchrotron-related studies in environmental science, this book is perfectly timed to answer the need for information requested by the present and future users of such modern investigation techniques. In that regard, it is dedicated to the community of researchers in the fields of geochemistry and environmental science who already possess a basic knowledge of synchrotron-based techniques or to those that may want to use such methods in the near future. This is a multi-author volume, each chapter being written by recognized specialists in their fields, which provides the reader with truly up-to-date information on the topic reviewed in each chapter. The first and introductory chapter gives an exhaustive review of the studies in low-temperature geochemistry and environmental science that have used various synchrotron-based techniques. The organization in terms of scientific issues and experimental methods is very relevant as it allows the reader to make a clear link between scientific problems and investigation techniques. It clearly demonstrates the unique ability of synchrotron-based spectroscopy (especially …
