Abstract
Do you remember the kerfuffle there was in 1997 when a survey was published of the views of London obstetricians on elective caesarean sections for themselves or their partners (Al-Mufti, 1997)? Nearly a third (31%) of the women said they would choose an elective section if they had an uncomplicated single cephalic presentation. Only 8% of the men would want an elective section for their partners. The reason most of the women wanted a section was to avoid damage to the pelvic floor.
