Abstract

This paper deals with the double-sided axial flux switched reluctance motor (DSAF-SRM) operation for series and parallel electrical connections of the phase winding terminals of the two stators. Its effect on motor performance is thoroughly studied. It is conjectured that the connections have implications with regard to unbalanced magnetic pull (UMP) and torque ripple. The motor under test is a laboratory designed and fabricated 0.75 hp, 24 V, 8S/6R DSAF-SRM. The motor performances with both the electrical connections have been analysed in FEM which is next validated experimentally also. The results are found to be in good mutual agreement.
