Abstract

Abstract Precutona peachi is stenophqus with a strong preference for Hydractinia echinata. The feeding procell is described. Food requirements or up to about 8 mm long snails are small and does not exceed the growth or a Hydractinia colony. Mature Precuthona move from colony to oolony to get food enough, and to meet a sex partner. Copulation and spawning may take place on the hydroid colony. Precuthona larvae are planktotrophic. At settlement they risk being swallowed by the adult's prey. but the reactions Hydractinia upon ccntact with larvae of Precutona deviate from the normal feeding responses, so larvae may escape.
