Abstract
This article deals with the research of journalistic, publicistic and editorial activities of F. Dudkо. A considerable amount of the scholarship has been devoted to the study of his literary heritage. However, journalistic, publicistic and editorial activities remain out of the scholarly discourse and await the rigorous and unbiased research. This situation is due, first of all, to the fact that many important facts of his collaboration with the media are recorded only in the press. The article reproduces a linear biography of F. Dudkо. The little-known fragments of his life and activities during the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917―1921s and the 1920—30s are introduced into the scholarship. The article’s findings show that F. Dudko’s publications were published under the pseudonym of Did Yakiv in the «Vidrodzhennia» newspaper. We have elucidated the facts of F. Dudkо’s collaboration with newspapers and magazines «Vidrodzhennia», «Zhyttia i Znannia», «Nazustrich», «Nash Prapor», «Nashe Slovo», «Nedilia», «Rada», «Ukraiina», «Ukrainskyi Holos» and others as well as the participating in the creation of the «Izhak» magazine, editing of «Horokhivski Visti», «Kovelske Slovo» and others. More than 190 of his journalistic texts have been identified and introduced into scholarly circulation. Their bibliographic checklist has been compiled. The article analyzes the problematic-thematic spectrum and genre palette of the journalistic heritage of F. Dudkо. It is highlighted that he mainly used such an artistic and journalistic genre as a feuilleton. He raised the problems of the absence of Ukraine in the information space of Europe. Additionally, F. Dudko stressed the importance of such Ukrainian mass media that would promote the idea of Ukrainian statehood, as well as honestly inform abroad about the developments in Ukraine. He highlighted the dominance of the Russian and Ukrainianlanguage anti-Ukrainian press. The journalist also drew attention to the issues of quality of written language, the culture of proper quoting texts of other authors (academic integrity) and so on. We conclude that F. Dudko left an invaluable journalistic and publicistic legacy, which yet requires its rigorous bibliography, systematization and rethinking. Keywords: Fedir Dudko, the Ukrainian press, journalistic and editorial activities.
