Abstract

Certain of the larger leafhoppers are capable of laying more eggs than is generally recognized. At Fort Valley, Ga., considerable oviposition data relating to females of the tribe Proconiini were obtained over a period of years in both field and insectary. However, not until 1955 were appreciable data secured on the individual fecundity of females of a given species, Homalodisca insolita (Walker). This species is new to the Southeast (Young 1958, Pollard et al. 1959) and has been incriminated as a vector of phony peach virus (Turner and Pollard 1955). This report includes results of observations of this species made from 1953–56.
