Abstract

Samples were analyzed which had been produced by two treatment regimes: regime I has a benzene expenditure of 40 g/m 2 and regime II has an expenditure at 60 g/m 2. The choice of these regimes is explained by the fact that the statistical distribution curves of glass sample strength are of a different nature [2]. With regime I, the probability is significantly decreased for sample failure during deformation loads below I00 MPa, while with regime II, the average and maximum strength increase. This indicates differences in the modification mechanisms of the surface layers.
