Abstract

In the present investigation, degradation of 2-nitrophenol (2-NP) in water was studied in laboratory-scale photo-reactor using different photocatalytic advanced oxidation processes (viz·H2O2/UV, Fe2+/H2O2/UV, Fe3+/H2O2/UV and TiO2/H2O2/UV). Parametric studies on these systems were carried out to determine the most favorable pH and stoichiometric oxidant/substrate ratio. This study revealed that the Fe3+/H2O2/UV photo-Fenton process is more competent and 100% COD could be removed within 75 min. of the reaction time. The substrate and oxidant (H2O2) concentration decay profiles signifies first order reaction.
