Abstract

The zero-sequence overcurrent protection commonly used in low resistance grounding system has low sensitivity and is very easy to reject under single-phase high-impedance grounding fault. To improve the protection sensitivity, a faulty feeder detection method based on Pearson coefficient is proposed. Firstly, the waveform of the zero-mode traveling wave of fault current is analyzed. It is found that the similarity of zero-mode traveling waveforms between healthy feeders is bigger than the similarity of zero-mode traveling waveforms between faulty feeder and healthy feeder. Secondly, to highlight fault characteristics, the time-frequency domain waveform of the zero-mode traveling wave is obtained by using the S transformation, which amplifies the similarity relationship between the waveforms. Finally, the Pearson coefficient is used as a measure of similarity to achieve the detection of high-impedance grounding faulty feeder. Simulation results show that the studied method has high sensitivity .
