Abstract
During open phase faults in multi-phase permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance motors (PMa-SynRMs), higher torque ripple is a major drawback which limits their wide acceptance in industries. To minimize the torque ripple, in this digest, a model predictive control (MPC) strategy is utilized under single phase open-circuit fault in a five-phase PMa-SynRM. Under phase lost condition, the torque characteristics of this machine are largely altered from the standard performances. This is due to primarily for the phase unbalanced, localized saturation, and uneven temperature variations. To support the proposed MPC strategy, these model changes are dynamically monitored and the control parameters are updated continuously while modeling the system. Extensive theoretical analysis has been conducted along with MATLAB simulations to verify the proposed method. Initial test results are presented to support the analytical results.
