Abstract

Control Centers are responsible for the supervision, monitoring and control of Power Systems. Information about the state of the Power System is continuously arriving at these centers where human operators still play the most important role in interpreting this information and taking decisions. However, in case of an emergency, the quantity of arriving alarms is so great that Control Center operators are not able to rapidly diagnose the fault. In this paper we present a Knowledge Based System that processes the alarm lists received at Portuguese Control Centers. This system assists operators in the interpretation of received information being a good support-decision tool for Power Systems control. It includes temporal reasoning strategies and deals with real-time constraints. An explanation module allows the use of this system as a tutor for novice operators.
