Abstract

1. 1. Gas-liquid chromatographic analysis was used to determine the composition of long-chain fatty acids, as methyl esters, in the dietary lipids and in the adipose tissue lipids of red grouse ( Lagopus lagopus scoticus), ptarmigan ( Lagopus mutus), black grouse ( Lyrurus tetrix) and capercaillie ( Tetrao urogallus). 2. 2. The content of linoleic and linolenic acids in the depot lipids of the birds studied was high, as was the content of these acids in the dietary lipids. 3. 3. Marked similarities were observed between the fatty acid composition of dietary lipids compared with that of the lipids laid down by the birds.
