Abstract

Due to the observed fatigue damages at coupling joints of prestressed concrete road bridges and the increased application of partial prestressing, the interest in an appropriate fatigue loading and design procedure has grown. In recent years European codes of practice made no or only very simple provisions for the fatigue design of concrete road bridges. This paper presents a new design concept on the basis of traffic measurements and numerical simulation. The static and the dynamic problems are treated separately.
