Abstract

This paper presents the development of a new model of an energy approach for predicting the fatigue life of a composite structure under a service load. From the exploitation of experimental works of the authors M. BOUSFIA et al. a novel procedure for predicting lifetime of a composite laminate is developed. This procedure is used to generate several curves describing the evolution of the deformation energy for various loading parameters that it has been proposed and which depends on: Fa the amplitude load, Fmax the maximum static load causing the rupture of the structure and r the load ratio defined as a quotient of Fmin/Fmax. The predictions of the numerical simulations of the proposed model were compared to some previous models of the literature and against the experimental results published by M. BOUSFIA et al. in the literature which were in perfect agreement, thus validating our model and the procedure developed in this paper.
