Abstract

Objectives: Black LGBT individuals are 2.4 times as likely as their white counterparts to be raising children, yet little research explores their experiences using family planning services or parenting. Stereotypes related to race, gender and sexuality, and the intersection of these statuses prevent many people from recognizing that men who have sex with men (MSM) father children, including through condomless vaginal sex with female partners. This study describes the prevalence of parenting and child caregiving among black MSM as a first step to developing tailored family planning services for this population.
