Abstract

Version 3.0 of the cable television industry's data transport standard, Data over Cable Service Interface Specifications (DOCSIS), might speed the time to download anything from a text file to a movie to 160 megabits per second. Even if the technology's theoretical maximum speed isn't commercially realistic, its demonstration at the May 2007 annual Cable Show in Las Vegas has network strategists and analysts wondering how users and competitors will react.
