Abstract

AbstractThe demand for the lowest possible surface roughness is growing — partly for aesthetic but primarily for functional reasons. Conventional polishing methods are reaching their limits, and conventional laser systems achieve results which are good but not sufficiently reproducible. The laser micro machining specialists at GFH GmbH have now tested ultra‐short pulse lasers as an alternative. These had previously not been considered on account of their largely melt‐free mode of operation. In burst mode, however, they achieved a significant reduction in surface roughness and simultaneously reduced the process times.
