Abstract

ABSTRACTA new wavelength initialization technique for wavelength division multiplexed‐passive optical network system is proposed and verified experimentally in this article. The proposed system is implemented using the back‐reflection of tunable filtered light over optical access link. At first, a wavelength band for allocated channel is determined using the power difference between two filtered lights with the help of two different optical tunable filters. Next, an accurate operational wavelength is obtained in the determined wavelength band using the back‐reflection of dedicated light path in the determined wavelength band. Experimental results show that the required time for wavelength initialization is measured below 3 s using the proposed technique. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
