Abstract
The action of a dc-current spin-flip device is thoroughly analyzed and its optimal design for dynamic mode of operation examined. It is found that the combination of a static and a dynamic flip coil allows a reduction in size of the latter for a given beam cross-section and, therefore, a shorter switching time. To drive such a flip device with highest possible speed, flexibility and power economy a special pulsed current supply has been developed. The essential electronic details of this are described in an appendix.
