Abstract

A valve that was developed for injecting hydrogen into the combustion chamber of a scramjet model being tested in a transient shock tunnel is described. The requirements of the project have led to the development of a valve which could have more general application in transient testing facilities. The valve is designed to open and close rapidly. It is compact, has a large opening area and closes after an adjustable opening time with a minimum value of 10 ms. It is actuated by a 3 mm solenoid valve and is suitable for use with pressures from 300-2500 kPa.
