Abstract
In order to clarify the mechanism of the Faraday rotation in the magnetic garnets containing tetrahedral Co/sup 3+/, the temperature dependences of the Faraday rotation spectra (FRS) were measured at temperatures between 60 K and 300 K for single crystalline films of (Y,Gd)/sub 3/(Fe,Co)/sub 5/O/sub 12/. As a result, the characteristic dispersive-shaped FRS due to Co/sup 3+/ were observed at around 1.3 /spl mu/m, and the FRS depends strongly on the temperature, and increases with decreasing temperature. Furthermore, the FRS were calculated in the scheme of the crystal field theory and the molecular field approximation.
