Abstract

Using the Michigan Panel Study oflncome Dynamics, this study examines the likelihood of extended joblessness for breadwinners who were unemployed during the recession of 1975. Both husband-wife and female-headed faimilies with children under 18 are included in the analysis. Using log-linear techniques, several factors are fbund to increase the probability of unemployment lasting 15 weeks or more.
